DomiNations Update 12.16 - Detachments

DOM_SM_Update_1216_v1_EN_1920x1080.png

Greetings Leaders,

The future of warfare in DomiNations is ready for deployment! We’re introducing a brand new way to control your army in battle, new Automation Age upgrades, and two new attack-oriented Councilors. Read on to see what you can expect arriving in our update for next week's 3/26 rollout!

Detachments
DomiNations Update 12.16 looks to revitalize combat as you know it with Detachments! This new system will have you creating groups of Troops and Generals that can be quickly deployed together with a single tap. You can create up to three detachments and precisely control your army while attacking an enemy base.

DOM_Detachments_MedAgeLayout_4k.png

Detachment Editor
Organize groups of barracks troops, factory troops, and generals into up to three detachments using the new Detachment Editor. Each detachment may contain up to one Leader and three Supporting Units. Only a General may be assigned as a Leader, while Supporting Units may include barracks troops, factory troops, as well as other Generals.

Each Detachment has a maximum troop capacity, which is 40% of your army’s total troop capacity (rounded up). Troops may not be added to a detachment if doing so would exceed its troop capacity. However, you’ll run out of army troop capacity before you’re able to fill all three detachments–this is intentional. Generals in a detachment do not occupy any troop capacity. You can also choose to leave any space empty in a Detachment.

Deploying C.png

Deployment Restrictions
In battle, a detachment is deployed as a group. The leader is deployed first, if one exists, then the remaining units are deployed in order from left to right.

Detachments may not be deployed from Tactical Helicopters.

In your Troop Tray, the Troops and Generals that are part of a Detachment are highlighted with their corresponding letter and color. Troops and Generals that aren’t part of a Detachment are deployed the same way that you’re used to.

Rally Cooldown.png

Rallying Detachments
A deployed detachment responds to both the Army Rally as well as its detachment-specific rally.

The detachment-specific rally can be used to directly control units in that detachment separately from the rest of your army. To use a specific Rally, first select it by tapping on the Detachment you wish to control either on the right side of the screen or in the Troop Tray. Then tap the target or destination you wish for that Detachment to rally to.

In the image above, Detachment A is highlighted on both the Troop Tray and the Rally icon on the right. This is to indicate that you’re currently controlling Detachment A, and the cooldown timer shows that you have recently activated its Rally.

Clearing Icons in Battle
You’ll also want to notice the new red markers on the Troop Tray! After a Troop has been wiped out during battle, tapping this will remove that Troop Button, and all other buttons with this icon, from your Troop Tray! This will reduce the scrolling required for quick strategies as the battle rages on.

Automation Age Upgrades: Storehouse & Shipyard
This update adds a new level to the Storehouse & Shipyard. The Level 15 Shipyard receives new expeditions and the introduction of new exclusive Troop Tactics only available here. Based on player feedback, we also took this opportunity to update the expedition rewards for Shipyard levels 13 and 14 with stronger Troop Tactics.

New Councilors
Update 12.16 will introduce two new Councilors. Unlike our previous addition, Ada Lovelace, these two will appear with identical bonuses for War and Peace.

DOM_Council_Hatshepsut_Full_Stats_EN_1920x1080.png

Hatshepsut (Diplomat)
Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt's most extraordinary rulers, defied tradition by becoming king around 1479 BCE. Hatshepsut’s most enduring legacy lies in her ambitious building projects, including the Karnak Temple Complex, the Red Chapel, the Speos Artemidos, and especially her grand mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari. She also revitalized trade and boosted Egypt's economy, most notably through a famous expedition to Punt. By focusing on internal stability and expanding Egypt’s reach through diplomacy and commerce, she fostered a flourishing and secure empire.

In DomiNations Hatshepsut will improve the effectiveness of Mortar and Heavy Infantry while reducing Enemy Wall Strength. Hatshepsut will be first available starting 4/14.

Charles Babbage (Scholar)
Born December 26th, 1791, Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor, and mechanical engineer who is credited with the original conception of a digital programmable computer. He invented the first mechanical computer, the Difference Engine, which led to his development of the Analytical Engine, a device that utilizes all the same fundamental principles that make up a modern-day computer.

Charles Babbage will help as a Councilor in DomiNations by reducing the strength of Enemy Towers and Anti Air Defenses. Charles Babbage will be first available starting 5/12.

Additional Fixes
  • Removed a vulnerability that allowed for seeing when Alliances were queued up for a World War.
    • This helps to strengthen our security improvements and anti-cheating efforts.
  • Updated the Alliance Contributor Daily Quest
    • If an Alliance has completed all Alliance Laws this quest will now automatically complete.
Edit 3/26: A hotfix to Update 12.16 is scheduled to release in a few days and will be a part of a forced update. This 12.16.1 hotfix will change the following:
  • Players will no longer get stuck in the opening tutorial for detachments if they have an active event building in their base when they update the app.
  • The “ready for battle” button in the Prepare for Battle screen will have a more correct touch target on wide aspect ratio devices
  • While it remains possible to add most trainable event troops to detachments, doing so with the Night Witch will no longer be possible as that created a bug which only allowed that troop to be deployed once in battle.

Interesting concept. the troop tray is a bit cluttered and will take getting used to. The main frustration i have so far is that I have a hard time telling if i actually deployed a given detachment. Is there a visual clue im missing cause the layering of troops/traps/defenders etc makes it hard to tell after the first one is down?

Manually is good bro, imagine u want to try a sabotage but some of ur troops dies and it shuffles automatically and you click on wrong tactics
Doing it manually we can prepare ourselves for shuffle and observe new position
Guys, I get the impression that some people slap icons positionally, completely unaware and not seeing what they are choosing. You might as well just miss by accident - the result is the same.

It happens a little differently for me - I choose a unit or tactic, and I see and realize that I have chosen exactly what I need - the element is chosen, and then I land the unit or apply the tactic. It takes a split second to choose and realize that I have chosen exactly what I need.

P.S. If BHG and LTG were working on the game, we could ask to do this in the settings - automatic or manual icon removal. But right now, for me, the most expected thing is for the detachments to be moved to the end of the list in the tray.
For now, I have refused to use detachments at all, because the way it is now is terribly inconvenient to use.

Can you not add the Mercs to a detachment? I group mine with generals to form a ’detachment‘. Seems like you may be trying to over control how we fight.

Update: I just tried it. It is not good, IMHO. It is cluttered, confusing and makes it tough to manage the battle.

To make it better. Allow Mercs to be included in a detatchment. Allow unlimited troops into the detachment. Allow any amount of types of troops into the attachment. Allow the entire Detachment UI to be suppressed if the player chooses not to use it.

And get rid of the Leaders slot or give some real kind of purpose. It is just another troop slot.
Why can't you simply drop your mercs next to your detachment of choice? OR ... just not use detachments and deploy as you did before. Imo, detachments only add a complexity not necessary in such short battles.
Cluttered is the right word.
And why are the detachment icons on screen if I'm not using them? More clutter.
I also don't see why the original rally button had to be moved.
Maybe, one day, bhg will actually ask people what they want and give them a chance to try it first.

☝️👍💪
Golden words! It's just a pity that all the players' requests have been "falling on deaf ears" of BHG for many years.
The forum is already full of very good ideas for implementation in the game - they just need to re-read everything again - there is a whole treasure trove of ideas for improving the game.

Upcoming 10th anniversary to you, BHG and LTG! 🤝👍:) I hope you see the players' reaction to your latest miracle in the game.

i have -42% Rally time reduction. This means that my rallies happen every 5-6".

Why Detachment rally is not affected by this? @Harlems369th
Can you pass this to the devs pls?

I wanted to see it with my own eyes and do some research before saying anything. Now that I have played dominations after the release of 12.16, I would like to comment on the following...

1. Detachments. They look like a great idea and the overall graphics and implementation is nice. It has 3 major flaws though:
- The army limit of each detachment is too small.
- Mercs need to be in the same detachment with generals.
- Time reduction of rally, from artifacts like PSN-8, needs to apply to detachment rally as well.

2. Council: Are the new councillors already available for recruiting? If not, when can we expect them to be?

3. Shipyard. Well, I believe you made a decision that greatly affects most players here. I made a table that shows the previous rewards and the new for levels 13/14 and added the new rewards for level 15. It is clear that we get ZERO NTGs from the expeditions now. But that was the only incentive to reach level 13/14 shipyard. The aim was to make a stash of those 5 NTGs. Now you took that away and replaced it with new TTs claiming that they are stronger. I have seen the TTs and nothing stands out as stronger than the wall breacher at level 12. Last of all, there are no 6h/12h expeditions. So, overall, the Shipyard rebalance is a complete fail in my opinion. We lost the NTGs, we got worse TTs than level 12 shipyard , all expeditions are 1d/2d and we only gained more supplies. That's it.

Shipyard level 12 is still the best level to have.... You said that your aim is to make NTG gathering an easier experience. We are not seeing that yet. Do you have any plans to change that ?

You can do that, drop the Mercs with the Detachment, but why bother at point? The more simple approach is to have 3 Detachment buckets with no controls on them. Then players can decide how best to fill them. Otherwise we are trying to blend detachments with non-detachment troops. IMHO that as no more efficient than the way we have been doing it for a decade.

To get rid of the resource loot list tap the chest, you can do this when scouting a base and during the battle count down.

"Detachments may not be deployed from Tactical Helicopters." They saw me coming. It was first thing I tried.
Yanno... the fact that Tactical Helicopters cannot be programmed into a detachment should say something about the difficulty of using this unit

@Harlems369th
bump. Do you have an answer for #1c and 2 ?

The main issue with dock TTs is that you mixed barracks troops with factory troops and that is not working well (with coalitions). Also, you mixed high hp ones with low hp. So that means that they can't be used as a silo bait nor as part of the main army cause you will attract missile silo and that is not what we want. So, their usefulness is zero.

thanks @Harlems369th

BHG can put all their effort n time in
Game updates
introducing new features
Introducing new Ages
Ask for feedbacks and surveys
Ect ect

But when they fail to take action aginst cheats n frauds with all proofs and evidence
Thats the end of the road
Tnx BHG for destroying our clan and friends who v played together for so many years
Gud luck BHG 😐

The game has been updated.
I tried detachments in battle. A bit confusing and unusual, but I guess you just need to get used to it. But the very essence of the troop grouping (detachments) is useful! 👍

"I absolutely agree! Why do we need markers and then manual cleaning when it can do all automatically?"

I confirm again! Manually deleting troops that are no longer on the battlefield is completely unnecessary and only gets in the way! Troops on the battlefield are destroyed - please immediately delete their icon from the tray automatically. BHG and LTG, please do this. 🙏 Or will this request again go to the long-awaited ones?
In principle, it is not so critical and problematic - to manually delete destroyed troops from the list in the tray. Can get used to it. It is not worth a quick fix it, BHG and LTG, it is better to do something really useful - fixes of critical issues and bugs and long-awaited fixes.

P.S. I don't use detachments, but the ability to remove destroyed troops from the tray list is now available without using detachments.
