Thanks for all the kinds words, everybody. I came across an absolutely classic Perfectionist move that I just had to add in here. But first, let me answer a couple of questions people have asked.

How long did it take for you to type all that.

It took me maybe an hour to type it all out. I had been working out the various entries in my head for months, so I had a lot of what I was going to say already formulated. The typing was more about formatting it all than composing it.

if you dont get recruits with this post, all hope is lost.... What's your alliance name again?

So far my alliance, the Elite Donators, has gotten exactly one recruit because of this thread. One very high quality recruit, a unicorn even. But just the one.

I want to emphasize that none of the eight types of recruits I discuss except the last one (the Unicorn) are based on any members of the Elite Donators. We are, amazingly enough, the alliance that all the unicorns join when they leave other, lesser alliances. So how do I know about the other types? I just, uh, have a very active imagination. Yeah, that's the ticket. >.>

So, anyway, even thought I have never personally observed such a thing, I imagine that a Perfectionist might pay real money to get the starter pack for the extra house, then leave those extra workers and all of her other ones sitting around doing nothing for weeks on end in her otherwise completely-ready-to-advance-in-age base while she upgrades generals. Money well spent, truly.
