Greetings Leaders,

World War Matchmaking is undergoing a few updates. We have a variety of improvements planned for 2022, with the first batch of changes rolling out today. Our goal is to improve the matchups Alliances are seeing in World War. These adjustments will lead to more competitive matches and reduce scenarios where players are paired with higher age and experience levels.

Changes:
  • We’ve increased the timing windows for matchmaking. This will increase the time it takes to find a match but should lead to more competitive games in World War.
  • We’ve also made a few under-the-hood adjustments to our matchmaking values that will impact how Alliances are measured against each other. As mentioned above, our goal is to improve the competitive balance when squaring up in War, leading to more competitive battles and fewer matchups where the War might be out of reach due to either Age or Level imbalance.
We will be keeping a close eye on our data and player feedback once the update is live, so be sure to let us know what your thoughts are in this thread once you’ve had a chance to fight a few wars.

Update: The matchmaking updates are starting to roll out today, this is a server-side update so you will not need to update the game.

Will the algorithm keep expanding the search after a set amount of time again and again till it finds a match or will it stay in a more narrow window expecting to find a more balanced match?

Muet has told in the past that defensive and offensive rating (which was derived from each player individually) was already taken into account. Can you be more specific pls?

Also, it would be nice to have a roadmap of this year's planned releases. It would inspire more confidence to us about the future of the game.
Can you pls try to be more communicative with your player base?

I guess your algorithm does not kick in right away. We just start a new war today, maybe 4 hours ago, and opponent has 6 Info age bases versus 1 Info age base in ours.

Sounds promising but we need more information as to how exactly it would work.

Start war searches regularly, understand the logic behind written for years now here in the forum, and you don’t need any information. But you need to think about instead smoking bad things.

Newest 30:30 matchup my alliance got today…..

Alliance perk differences: 14 vs. 17
glory point spread: 612 - 28
alliance age spread:
Information Age: 3 vs. 0
Digital Age: 2 vs. 1
Space Age: 4 vs. 0
Cold War Age: 2 vs. 4
Atomic Age: 5 vs. 4
Global Age: 5 vs. 4
Industrial Age: 3 vs. 5
Enlightenment: 1 vs. 3
Gunpowder Age: 4 vs. 3
Medieval Age: 1 vs. 3
Classical Age: 0 vs. 3

in other words, same mismatches as usual. Search time took less than 3 hours.

Ages not lining up does not make it a mismatched war. You can have a L180 rushed CW base that is easily 5 stared by a global age base and so weak offensively that it can only 5star a gunpowder base. Yet by age logic, that is a mismatch in favor of the CW base…

Strength of bases matter much more than age comparison. You also need a sample size of 10+ wars to look at.

Last point, there are not many 30 player war searchers out there. Try the 15 and 20 participant wars if you want better selection and better war matches.

ofc it isn’t. But have you ever seen that BHG made things good?

Sometimes, yes, but that's irrelevant. You clearly thought your latest war matchup was evidence against an improved matchmaking algorithm or you wouldn't have mentioned it. Even data from ten matchups is going to only give a tenuous hint at whether their new code is working as they hope.

i am always laughing of people think to know what others thought. That might be the case in some lower league discussion circles. But just mention that a couple of people are out of the box of your limited thinking. Maybe some dudes trying to get a security license are on such an intellectual level, but believe me, some others are not.

Our first match after the update gives as a VERY easy lignup. Except the no1 with a big Info base (that we don't have), the other bases are good.

A good match for us.

haha..you are right. From their point of view, it will be more difficult. But this is only one war. Let's see the coming weeks if this gets repeated. Usually, we get one "easy" war, and 3-4 difficult ones.

bah..general opinion after a couple of weeks after this "rebalancing"...it SEEMS to be a bit better. We don't have extreme mismatches anymore. To monitor.
