troops from forest

i attacked someone in medieval era. 4 horseman came out of forest to defend him. i know theres a temple blessing that gives extra defenders from the forest (4 of them). this guy did not have that on field. besides that says extra defenders. which implies theres an initial source of forest defensders. what is it?

You get forest defenders from research in your library. They will be the same level/type as your most upgraded stable.

Love those guys - they really help break up attacks. I'm looking forward to L5 library - you get a bunch more dudes from the TC also!
