- protect youre defense buildings with walls so they last longer and surround youre towncentre with the defenses
- spread youre resource buildings so its harder for the attacker to destroy them
- advance asap to the medieval age for more defense buildings instead of upgrading them! !
- defense buildings that are upgrading wont work during battle so use that when you attacking Someone and try to upgrade defense buildings when you got a peace treaty
- try to place your towncentre away from the edge of the Woods and surround it with the strongest defense like a katapult and always connect your walls, it wil slow down your attacker
- its better to defend a few buildings a 100% then protecting all for 50% you cant protect everything, so choose what you want to defend, resources or medals 50/50 is an option but remember that your defense is a bit weaker and there is a bigger chance that the attacker takes everything!!
- upgrade youre temple to lvl 2 for the tower blessing for stronger defenses
- upgrade your academy to lvl 2 so you can use 2 battle tactics in one battle
- always collect from your farms and camels before you leave the game because the attacker can steal 50% from them and only 25% from your markets
-when you got attacked and you lose the towncentre you Will lose your reinforcement from your allies keep that in mind before you ask some troops ;-)
- always attack with a blessing for your troops
-when attacking focus on 1 thing loot or winning the battle and go for the towncentre for an instant win and when you face an easy opponent then go for al His defenses so you dont lose your army.
-when attacking find a weak spot and dont attack where the defenses are the strongest and if the defender looks to strong dont waste your troops or your medals

keep in mind that when you earn more medals your opponent gets stronger because the game wages your medals with the medals of your opponent, so it could be possible that you face an opponent that is much higher in player lvl and has a stronger defense and a stronger army as you
check down in this topic for a picture of my village and dont forget there is no perfect defense !!

good luck greetings drescorpion tropa elite alliance

Welcome to the forums, drescorpion. What you have outlined are very good combat, and in particular defensive, tips for all players... and yes especially beginners: they should help lead to improved thinking and better habits in gameplay. Most of these apply to Single-Play as well as Multiplay. Expediency is essential for loot and battle stars as well as just 'beating the clock'.

The one tip I would add is that should you initiate a battle, destroy all defensive buildings not just as soon as possible but before the clock runs out or you decide to retreat. Retreating without destroying all defensive buildings means any surviving troops will not be returned to you, so you might as well go out fighting to whatever end comes about.

I would say the one tip in the opening post that is most difficult for players to put into practice, if not even wrap their minds around more generally, is the last one: "sometimes the best offense is no offense at all", so to speak.

Hey danQ thank you for your comment
I think it is not important that you get back all of your troops because it is easy to get them back but when you lose medals it is harder to win them back and to get much loot is always an time effort
But youre right when you face an easy target then you can go for the big win ;-)
Im lvl 34 and i have 604 medals and most of the time i face much stronger opponents and then i must make a decission lose my soldiers or lose my medals so I always go for the medals or the loot.
By attacking the towncentre first you get an instant win so after the towncentre it doesnt matter what you do, you can go for the defense or the loot or both when the opponent isnt that strong, but i think that when you must make a choice the best is the loot .
That is for me always the best way and im not playing this game for long i think like 3 week or so but i won a lot of battles that way.

- advance asap to the medieval age for more defense buildings instead of upgrading them! !

I agree with all the tips you noted, but I really would like to ge indepth on this tip;

Advancing to a new age;
- The cost of searching for a battle will increase by 50 gold every age
- The amount of loot you will get from lower ages than you will be reduced per age as well

You have to take these two facts in account, if you don't upgrade most of the buildings before advancing to a new age you end up farming longer for 'simple' upgrades.

I agree on the fact that you don't have to rush to upgrade your defenses per se, unless you're farming and you don't give a you know what about medals.

Other than that I liked reading your post and want to thank you for it :)

My personal tips;
- Plan ahead, you're gonna need room, clear forests in a smart way otherwise you'll end up basing your base layout on it, I choose for a nice square-form but I have seen a lot of people using rectangles.
- Don't forget your walls, it might seem like a drag to upgrade your walls, but you'll find that they're very important later on.
- Join an alliance, even if you don't want to be super social or anything, you can always learn from eachother.
- RESEARCH; you are gonna have to make choices, do your research on which nation you're gonna pick and which Wonders you're gonna build.

Thank you for your comment

Youre totally right when it comes to the farms and camels but what use have they if they raid it every time and you have to find a balance in upgrading your defense and upgrading other stuff but this is in my case and my 3 weeks of playing the best method i found but I think there are more roads to Rome so what i say its not for everybody that why i like to hear from players what they know ;-)
And youre right about the walls im working on that but im still winning most of the time with them

Good postings. Some things I've noted are:
- Agree on upgrading everything fully before advancing ages. But also remember to have your gold and food FULL as your town centre upgrades, this way you can start out straight away when you get there.
- Directly on upgrading an age, the multi battles are much harder. I try to focus on upgrading the farms/caravans quickly soon after the advance to fill the upgraded storehouses.
- Visit a lot of other players, especially those in the same age as you (not just the top guys!) This gives you a lot of ideas.
- Change. I try to change around the entire layout a few times, seeing what works, and what does not. Map Editor is great for this while things are building away.

Looks nice but for me the whole battle thing is for the loot and yours is up for grabbing without having much resistance. If its for the victory I would get that too with destroying your gold building and food building in a jiffy. Anyway getting the correct setup is hard and I'm still searching for it as well so keep working on it.

I personally like to upgrade everything before moving in Age, also I have noticed that once I attacked a player in gunpowder age and I was classical, at the beginning the loot available was somthing like 70000 gold and 70000 food, but when I raided all the resources, I received 90000 gold and 90000 food. I am not sure if that is some sort of loot bonus for attacking people higher age than me. Also, I didn't playing British.

Id be more inclined to swap your town centre and put your mills and gold markets in its place instead. Don't be to concerned with losing medals at this stage and concentrate more on defending your resources so you can upgrade your defenses. Also dont group your farms together, spread them out so they are harder to gain your resources ... a raid of 5 soldiers could easily steal your food.

Leonidas raises an interesting strategy that I would appreciate feedback on - the sacrificial placement of the Town Centre in lieu of resource protection and therefore, the loss of medals. I have gone for this strategy as I don't care about medal count; whereas, I do care about securing precious and hard-earned resources. Now, one of my alliance members suggested I should be more protective of the Town Centre / medal count. The OP suggested surrounding the Town Centre with defenses and somewhere else it is suggested that it is the most important asset. Can someone tell me why I would worry about my medal count? I know a little boat arrives daily to drop off a bonus based on my level but it seems a pittance compared to what can be lost/gained on almost any raid. The other advantage of an exposed Town Centre is that an attack can take it out and activate a Peace Treaty that also serves to protect my resources whilst I am inactive. To me, resource protection is paramount but if medal count is more significant than I realise, I would appreciate the feedback.

Another tip I could give is don't just have one big wall around all your stuff. I love attacking guys with that setup - through one wall and it's like shooting fish in a barrel! Your troops just smash everything inside the wall, then wander out to clean up what's left.

Use sections, and section off things that are important to you. drescorpion may prefer to protect the TS, and h4d3s and Leonidas might prefer to protect the cash. Either way - section things off and make it harder for the troops to get through each one.

Andys Tip of the Day - Investigate ALL of the Library levels. You can do that by clicking the question mark "?" for each item. There are many that give you extra physical advantages - like additional Towers, Additional troops from the forest, and Additional farms, Catapults etc. If you know what you want most - it's easier to plan the path to get there in advance.

I agree with you totally. I dont protect my towncentre (TC) because I value my gold and food storages above all else. Without food and gold you cant progress in the game so until the game developers give more importance to the TC than just the source to advance through ages I wont be bothered much to protect it on the same level I do my resources. Furthermore, some players like you said value medal count more then resources so in having it unprotected they may just destroy the TC and end the attack as remember destroying the TC itself claims a victory. Losing medals actually benefits you more IMO as your opponents to attack is judged only those who have a similar medal count to you so lower medals = easier opponents to attack. Like you mentioned the recent update of the boat dropping of a reward of your choosing hasnt changed my opinion at all as I can gain the same amount easily on my own.

More important is to upgrade your walls. Theres no point in saving massive amount of gold for days to upgrade defences if your still protecting them with level 2 or 3 walls. Your defences need time to work on wiping out the enemy and you arent doing them any favours if they can destroy your walls in no time at all .. especially if they are rocking wall miners.

People are so quick to rush ages in order to get the newest addition for their village that they completely neglect the very thing that will help to keep it standing; strong walls. They are also usually the ones who complain that they are losing too many resources or attacked far to often when its completely their fault.

I Just started this game a couple of days ago. The biggest tip I can give so far is research everything. Similar to CoC, if you are unsure what to do, look online, ask questions before you commit to something. I suspect that the early choices we make in this game will have long-term consequences

Thanks for your response, Leonidas - we seem to be playing from the same strategy book. I did, however, get into a debate with a fellow alliance member about the need to accumulate and protect medals to advance up the leaderboard and "win." I tried to explain that such things didn't matter to me, rather that my goal was to build my city and to that end, accumulate and protect resources. He was stuck in the "winning" mentality and just couldn't accept where I was coming from. Hence, I posted in the forum, assuming there must be something in the medal count that I just wasn't getting.
