As highlighted in our 12.10 Update notes, we will be ending support for AOS6 with the release of the 12.11 Update due to technical requirements. Those on AOS6 will need to upgrade to a device that supports AOS7 or above to continue playing DomiNations.

I've been playing since mid April 2015, now at 175 Global. I was sat at ~2500 medals for months, nice place to be, but as I had a max global army thought I'd meander up to 3200 medals, tick that achievement box, collect my 2000 crowns. Wherever you are in this game, you have your own personal target, 3200 was mine.

There seems to be 2 ways of climbing, TC sniping with a Training Blessing or take a full war army and search out a nice 25+ medal opponent. You have to get over 25 each session because the second you log off, you will lose around 15 on average, so snipe 20+ bases or hit one. I went with the latter.

It's slow going but up to 3000 not much problem. You can Next through 10 bases a minute, within 10 minutes you find that 20-30 medal base. 'No Opponent Found' crops up occasionally, depending on time of day, crashing out of the game back to the iPad home screen, not so funny. Freezing and having to restart. But on we go and get the medals - took about 6 weeks to get from 2400 to 3000.

Above 3000 it starts getting bad. I got as far as 3126. First the number of high medal bases are rare; pressing ‘Next’ for 40 minutes or 400 bases, 400k in gold was the worst. At 3100 you can press 'Next' for 20 minutes and not actually find any base worth more than 5 medals - waste of an army attacking, especially in Flammpanzers.

While nexting past all these bases you notice patterns, the same faces keep appearing. Sometimes the buffer of available opponents is so short it loops round so you see the same bod twice in 20 seconds. With 'No Opponent' you just wait 15 seconds and then it finds a few. I've gone past most of the folk on the forum (if you're above 2100 medals) but didn't attack because you were only worth 1 medal. It's like a very small town, you see the same faces, sometime the same person 3 times in one day. I must of got in sync with USA Elite JAG for a couple of days - got him 3 times (lost one as I had to take a phone call just as I placed the first tank and just had leave my army to get on with it - work & this game don't mix).

There are 86400 seconds in a day, and I reckon from what I see that on average somebody logs out once every 10 seconds and is available to attack, which makes the Dominations population above 2100 medals about 10,000, about small town size.

But it could be less; this is related to The Birthday Paradox https://betterexplained.com/articles/understanding-the-birthday-paradox/ - you only need 23 people in a room to stand a 50/50 chance of having the same birthday, or 75 to get 99% chance. If 23 of you view this topic, chances are one of you has the same birthday as me. November 4th :)

The other weirdness you've probably all noticed is being attacked by names you recognise. GoldDS got me yesterday, Farmer Bob was round a couple of weeks ago. S_How lifted a few medals a while back. I've been attack by Gabo of Tercio Viejo twice in the past 6 days. The leader of an alliance we were at war with last week attack me this morning.

So the Dominations population above 2100 medals could be a lot less than 10,000. 75/365 is around 20% so there is me & 1999 others above 2100 medals.

Except that has been broken for months (since Moonies would be my guess) only people on it before then appear, it's never refreshed - I should have appeared around 174th place, but probably a 100 others wonder why they are not there too.

Great essay Eddie F1 *waves* I dropped out of the medals race months ago. Topped out at 2600. My Domi life has been much easier since bobbing up and down between 200-1900. I see some people I recognize too and have noticed repeats as well. I wonder if this is because they are on the same schedule as me so I'm bunched up with the same people in a rotation kind of like clocking in and clocking out? Or maybe it's the birthday effect. I'm September 19th btw 😊 It's coming up so don't forget to wave to me on my special day 😉

Great post Eddie!
I even read that article about Birthday paradox and it was fun. With my few days experience of Empire I can tell I had almost the same experience. I have met one guy from Tercio viejo all the time (defense or offense) and one guy from ITA Res Magna too. I kind of liked it tho! Its one of the reason I will come back (once Im at least late global). It felt like a nice little league or community. Would be cool to see real numbers. Also thanks for the stats about climbing, it might be useful sometimes.
Also I would like to point out that you are probably a lucky man, because my avarage in Empire III (!) was about 30 minutes to find a base (almost same method as you)

20-30 minutes is probably about average. It's not much fun after a while; when you start out @2800 you can nearly be guaranteed a 25+ medal base eventually, above 3000 you start hoping for a 15 medal base, 3100 you might press 'next' for an hour and still not see one.

And this is all because of matchmaking on medals, it doesn't have to be this way. I guess that's how the 'other' game does it.

my goal was 3,200 as well but i ended up surpassing that and hitting 3,500; what you wrote exactly 100% fits what i had to face in reaching that and seems things haven't changed since then(8 months ago). i remember running into you 4 consecutive days each time tank sniping your base since it was at the edge and taking 2-4 diamonds each time :D it's a very grueling and mundane task, what helped me was setting a medal goal each day, minimum i would aim for 35+ medals because i knew i'd get hit for -25 (although at times i got hit for -1) so that way i would end always with positive medal gain. and yeah, i kept getting hit by the same people over and over at times, Russel, Alwaysus, Sharp and many more. keep chipping away, i'm sure once you hit 3,200 you'd go way further because then you'll have that juicy 344k+ 10% more with chapter 5 league bonus upgrade as motivation!

Thanks Eddie for sharing, great post. Never had so much time for the game...
Never went above 2800 in medals, was scared out by the 'No opps' message. I said to myself, I like to play the game and not waiting for the possibility to have a shot.
Im around 2400 for months, but not really having forumers attacking me... Mostly visited by Koreans who are not that much unfamiliar with my maze.

Yeah screw being up in the dizzying heights of the medal race, why? Too stressful imo. Im xp168 IA still (lol) and sit on 700-800 medals. Games soo much fun, this is how I like it.
