Christmas Truce Event 12/17 - 12/31
Quickly build and expand your city during the Christmas Truce event!

On Christmas morning, December 25, 1914, soldiers across some of the war fronts in World War I emerged from their trenches to greet one another. Throughout the day, these soldiers exchanged gifts of cigarettes, food, clothing, and kicked makeshift soccer balls.

Officers on both sides would strictly forbid such future fraternization. Those regulations may have been a moot point regardless, given the increasing animosity generated by new innovations such as poison gas, strategic bombings of cities, and unrestricted submarine warfare. Industrialized warfare would destroy such Victorian-era pleasantries as surely as it would claim the lives of many of the participants of the Christmas Truce, but for one day at least, peace reigned throughout much of the Western Front.

For the duration of the event, Farms, Caravans, and Oil Wells will produce:

• 20% More Food!
• 20% More Gold!
• 20% More Oil!

River Thames Frost Fairs Event
The Frost Fairs took place in England when the River Thames would freeze during the Little Ice Age, which occurred between 1350-1850 CE. The Thames froze nearly two dozen times over these years. When the ice was thick enough to bear weight, people would construct tents to sell souvenirs, drinks, and even roast ox. During the Frost Fair of 1739, an entire section of ice cracked under the weight of the celebration, swallowing tents and people under the frozen river. The end of the Little Ice Age and a more freely flowing river - thanks to the demolition of the old London Bridge in 1831 - will keep the Fairs as celebrations of long ago.

Dongzhi Festival 12/17 - 12/24
This week is our Dongzhi Festival Event!

The Dongzhi Festival is a Chinese festival that celebrates the winter solstice and the coming longer days. This festival is a time for families to come together, reflect on the previous year, and commit to better themselves in the coming year. During the festival, families will gather to make and eat tangyuan, which are a round rice dumpling that is now commonly filled with sweet flavors and served as a dessert. The tradition of eating dumplings during the Dongzhi Festival is attributed to Zhang Zhongjing, a renowned physician from the Han dynasty. It is said the he saw poor children who were suffering from the cold and was inspired to create a 'dumpling soup that expels the cold.' To follow this example, it is often tradition for more wealthy individuals to give warm food to the less fortunate.
