After spending some time with Dominations and perusing this forum, I've noticed one thing in particular that is a little concerning: the total lack of open mindedness when it comes to tactics, civ choice, and wonder selection. As of this writing, the community at large regards certain wonders, particularly the defensive ones, as the only option for late game success. For at least the Iron and Classical age, this means that 3/4 and 2/4 wonders are completely disregarded from the get-go. This is so severe that I cannot find anywhere — on the forum, subreddit, or wiki — what the Terra Cotta Army does, or any arguments for Hanging Gardens, Pyramids, Stonehenge or others about why you would ever use them.
Personally, I have the Hanging Gardens, and find myself very rarely worrying about resources — particularly trade goods like cider and metal which help bolster your army with mercs. Is my base as well defended as someone with an Acropolis? Maybe not, but I'm confident that I'll continue to be happy with the piles of food & gold, cider & metal that I bring in all the time. There's also the matter of Fruit Tree and Gold Mine refresh time scaling: every age it takes longer for these to refresh. There are long term benefits to the Hanging Gardens (like being able to more frequently collect cider and metal late game) that never get brought up, mostly because the community has a few people claiming to be authorities when really they're just theory crafting. As a result, you see the same 2 wonders in every player's base.
I'm happy to report that I'm building the Terra Cotta Army as we speak. Maybe it'll suck, I'll be sure to let you know. If anything, I'll be able to help fill out the wiki and wonders sticky in this forum so it's no longer a mystery to everyone playing the game. Maybe there's a reason that no one builds it, but as far as I can tell, the biggest reason no one uses it is that there are more voices saying that defensive buildings are the only worthwhile wonders, and every new player is listening to them rather than exploring for themselves.
TL;DR: Don't be afraid to choose the civ you want to play, or build Wonders that aren't Acropolis/Colosseum. The Dominations metagame is undeveloped, and you could be missing out on unique benefits and play styles by just following the loudest voices on the forum.
