I saw this in a thread somewhere discussing how to improve the hunting animations but i am no longer able to find the thread. I am unsure if it was deleted. If you see the thread please send post the link here so we can delete this thread and move this content to that thread.
Anyway my thought process was that as you improve through the ages the hunting of animals should actually become much easier so using less and less civilians. With my logic the advancement of ages also led to the improvement of hunting skills. For example it might take 6 civilians to hunt a bear in iron age with their iron spears but in gunpowder age it should only take 1 civilian to kill the bear with a headshot. However this could cause an imbalance to the amount of food received by hunting since i have noticed that the animals are giving more and more resources as you grow. But i think a animals doesn't just naturally give you more resources. What should be done is to keep the amount of resources from an animal the same and just increase the amount of animals showing up and being able to hunt easier as you grow through the ages.
Just my 2 cents
