Question: Suppose that a high-level player has not updated her warbase for years. Is her defensive war weight calculated based on the buildings in the warbase or on all of the buildings she has built?
I have seen the guidance from BHG that war weight is based on all of the buildings without regard to the layout. However, this is ambiguous. All the buildings on the warbase or all the buildings ever created by this account?
If you are confident that you have an answer to this, can you tell me the basis of your knowledge? Are you speaking from experience, from data (some people run experiments) or from information from BHG?
Background: I started playing in April 2016. I've created 4 accounts over the years, each reached space age or higher, each had lighter defenses than the previous one. Over the years, I saw many bases that had zero or almost zero buildings in their warbase. These bases were invariably ranked low on the war team, even when that account had strong offense units. My second-last account had very weak defenses but I kept my warbase in synch with my peacetime base. This time around, I stopped updating my warbase at medieval. I have Level 70 generals and all the troop types that I use (and coalitions and offense-supporting buildings and library techs, etc) are fully updated to space age level. Despite the heavy offensive power (I am speaking about the high power of the units, not necessarily my personal skill), I rank pretty low on war teams, which was my design goal. I rank significantly lower (am rated by BHG as lighter weight) than the earlier very-lightweight account with the updated warbase. Sometimes other Space Age players rank below me, even though they have kept their warbase updated, but these players have significantly weaker offense units.
Based on my observations of other accounts with non-updated warbases, on my experience with this account, and in comparison with my other accounts, I'm pretty sure that defensive war weight is calculated on the basis of the buildings in the war base, ignoring the other buildings in the account that have not been placed in the war base.
Other experienced players have confidently assured me that I am mistaken. They are certain that defensive war weight is based on all of the buildings in the account.
Looking at this forum and at many discussions on Discord, over several years, I have not discovered credible evidence (experiments, careful-observation-and-comparison reports, or facts-from-BHG) either way. Lots of people who have strong opinions or high confidence, but not much evidence.
Do you know something that I don't know? If so, I sure would be happy to read it.
Thanks for your help.
